Social media posts displayed videos of swaying chandeliers and fans, depicting the earthquake’s significant impact.
Rupesh Upadhyay, a resident in a Noida high-rise, initially mistook the vibrations for passing traffic, only to notice the sustained shaking of the ceiling fan.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported the quake’s epicenter in Nepal, at a depth of 10 km. “The tremors continued for a significant duration while we were leisurely watching TV,” said Inderjit Singh, a resident of Gurugram. Another local, Gopal from Ghaziabad, mentioned enduring tremors for more than 15 seconds and hearing rattling window panes.
The earthquake also affected various districts in Bihar, including Patna, Katihar, and Motihari, situated along the Indo-Nepal border. Fortunately, no significant damage or loss of life was reported in the state.
This marks the third seismic activity in a month to impact Nepal. Previous occurrences in October led to damage and were felt in parts of India, including the National Capital Region.
