In a significant move to boost tourism, Malaysia is set to eliminate entry visa requirements for Indian and Chinese citizens starting December 1. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in a recent speech at his People’s Justice Party’s annual congress, announced that visitors from these two countries can now enjoy up to 30 days in Malaysia without the need for a visa. This initiative aims to not only attract more tourists but also fuel economic growth through increased spending.

Malaysia’s decision echoes a global trend. Vietnam’s Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Nguyn Van Jung, recently urged for short-term visa waivers for major markets like China and India to aid the recovery of the country’s tourism sector. This move aligns with a broader strategy to attract visitors and boost economic activity.

 

Thailand’s Bold Move: Visa-Free Entry for India and Taiwan

In a bid to welcome more travelers, Thailand announced visa-free entry for tourists from India and Taiwan for a period of six months. Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavision highlighted the decision, saying, “We will provide visa-free entry to India and Taiwan because a lot of their people like to travel to Thailand.”

Sri Lanka’s Tourist Magnet: Free Visas for Six Countries

Sri Lanka took a similar step, granting free visas to travelers from seven countries, including India and China. This initiative, effective until March 31, 2024, aims to position Sri Lanka as a tourist hotspot. The Sri Lankan tourist ministry expressed high hopes, anticipating a substantial increase in tourist arrivals.
