Orders to Shoot at Sight Following Violence During the Demolition of Uttarakhand Madrasas
In Uttarakhand, things got heated during the demolition of a madrasa declared illegal. Over 50 police officers got hurt in a clash with a mob in Haldwani. The mob threw stones at them, and now they’re all getting treated at a local hospital. Shoot-at-sight orders are in effect, and security’s been beefed up.
A team of officials, including police, went to the madrasa and mosque site. When they started demolishing, a crowd of “unruly elements” attacked, hurling stones. Several officials and journalists got injured. Police fought back with tear gas, but violence spiraled, with vehicles outside the police station set on fire.
The District Magistrate told the Chief Minister that large gatherings are banned, and orders are to shoot rioters on sight. Chief Minister Dhami said they were following a court order to demolish an illegal structure, but “anti-social elements” caused trouble. More police and central forces are deployed. Curfew’s imposed, and action’s promised against arsonists and rioters.
The Municipal Commissioner confirmed the madrasa and namaz site were illegal. They’d already seized nearby land and sealed the illegal structures, now demolished.
They’re working to identify and arrest the troublemakers who threw stones. The Chief Minister held a meeting with top officials to handle the situation.
It’s crucial to maintain peace and uphold the law, even during tense situations like this. Let’s hope for a swift resolution and return to normalcy.
